Save Bitch Magazine!

Dear Friends,
Too many excellent magazines have bitten the dust lately.
Kitchen Sink, Clamor, On Our Backs, and Punk Planet (just to name a few!).
What i wouldn't give to have Punk Planet back.
Well. I don't have a Quantum Leap remote control so i can't go back into Dan Sinker's body and change the past, BUT we can change things NOW and help Bitch Magazine put out their next issue. PLEASE! I mean, basically we're living in a time when Sarah Palin is... around and .... some people like her? It seems like no better time to have a feminist voice in the media. So. Support BITCH . I'm a contributor, you know. I sure do like them. If that counts for anything. And wow, what if somebody who was going to vote for Sarah Palin picked up a copy of BITCH on a fluke and read something amazing and was like "what am i doing?" and then didn't vote for her. Great.
Please repost this video and give them some money.
and after that, buy me lunch with Pee Wee Herman (see below).

Newly added I.S. clothes to Etsy!

I gocco printed many shirts and underpants (and a few dresses) for the Zine Symposium this year. With the help of my new assistant friend Harlan, and my lovely model Morgan, I have listed the remaining garments in my etsy shop Etsy shop , and is reasonably priced. Everything's between $8 and $20.

Take a look!

Here is a behind the scenes with the Etsy models, both of whom have trained extensively at ANTM University under none other than Tyra Banks.

Buy me a Gothic Lolita Dress

I'm going to try and make this blog mainly News bits and sketchbook entries pretty soon, but until then, i wanted you to know that i found something new on blogspot, which is that they will let you create a "wishlist" by googling products that you want,
and then people who read your blog can, i guess, Grant your Wish by buying you one of those things?
I mean honestly, you're granting my wish by reading this at all.
But if you feel like you want to give just a little bit more,
you can go to my wishlist:
http://www.google.com/shoppinglist?a=SWL&email=kniqole%40hotmail.com&id=656313214197108548

and buy me a room sweeping robot or a tiny tophat with special netting.

Happy wish granting!
I'll see you at the zine symposium!

I just started a cafe press store.

tiny gocco printed artifacts.

if you want something bigger, i have tote bags, messenger bags, and lots of shirts with this owl on them.
Buy one! Tell somebody you want it for your birthday!
I'd buy one.

thank you for your support.

Hi there.
Pet portrait slots are quickly filling up, and i still have a few left before the holidays! I know, i know, it's AUGUST! Not a lot has changed.

I did a ventriloquist act for the talent show in 6th grade with a Charlie McCarthy doll in which I made inside jokes about my dog, Gizmo, that my mom helped me write. No one really understood.

Mirror, Mirror

co-curated by Chloe Eudaly and myself. I did the lettering for this flier. the drawing is by Lille Carre

i want to punch this girl in the face.

Dear Friends,
I have been on the phone with yahoo dot com all morning trying to win back my website.
I hate yahoo. I officially hate them. I hate that when you call, someone bellows YAHOO-OO-OOO! in your ear, and that you are then treated to forty five minutes of aggressive, pounding piano music before the shaky voice of a disempowered staff person is dispatched to foil you and make you wonder if anyone's ever actually killed themselves while on hold.
so. in the meantime. nicolejgeorges.com sells real estate , apparently, with the help of this blonde backpacked beast.

in the meantime, read my advice blog. it's a lot less aggressive.

UPDATE: AS OF 5:38 P.M., NICOLEJGEORGES.COM IS BACK ONLINE! HUZZAH! It makes me want to sing Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog..dun dun... He Was a good friend of mine... dun dun... somethin something something bout a word he said, but i sure did like his wine...joyyyy to the world. all the boys and girls. joy to the fishies in the deep blue sea. joy to you and me.

UPDATE: AS OF 5:52 P.M., www.nicolejgeorges.com still has the backpacked beast. but if you omit the www part, you somehow go to the right place. my land.
wtf.

My Workspace

What does your workspace look like?

Georges Lands on the Moon, Gives advice .

1. As you may or may not know, I have started an advice column in my zine, Invincible Summer. The very first Ask Nicole questions were about getting sketchy men to notice you on the bus, and whether to wear a helmet whilst biking with a bouffant.

I like to give advice. Solicited or otherwise.
An advice column feels like the best way to channel my know-it-all tendencies,
and so,
i ask you- my blog reading friends,
to help fire up the fortress of wisdom by asking me some questions.
They can be real or hypothetical, and you will always be anonymous.
I will take questions about virtually anything,
sex, love, career, housekeeping, roommates, health, pets, etc.
but of course, no suicidal inquiries
(you'd be surprised. when radio and i were going to start an advice column :Ask Nicadio, somebody asked us if they should kill themself.
the answer is
always NO, but i don't want that heavy shit hanging over my head!).

I will publish the questions and answers weekly (at least) at
http://asknicolegeorges. blogspot. com
and select questions will be published in my zine that i will hopefully have done at the zine symposium.
if you want to ask me a question, you can myspace it to me, or email me at orangevolvo164@yahoo.com

Thanks.

2.

My dear friends Harry and the Potters were in town last week and brought wizardly magic to Portland. Shown above, The DeGeorges on the Moon, (a photo by Nathan Backous) in which there is an invisible flag in my hand.
The Potter clan gave me some prizes to bestow upon girls at the Rock Camp, including post cards and temporary tattoos. I usually offer bribes (aka "Incentives") for the girls to read their work aloud at the end of our zine class, but have never experienced the kind of fever and open hostility and enthusiasm/competition that Harry Potter themed prizes inspired! I heard cries of "Unfair!" as i chose only five of the fifteen raised hands to read (after making them read my mind and pick a number between one and one hundred), and whispers in parsel-tongue from the girls who weren't chosen as their friends picked from the post card selection "give me the one of dumbledore rapping!" one girl cried in a hiss, "i need that tattoo because, you see, I LOVE harry potter!" another requested.
at the end of the day, i hope the girls weren't too mad with me for bringing what turned out to be piranha food into the gentle fish tank of girl-love and solidarity called Rock Camp.

3. My graphic novel is one step closer to reality! Details to follow.
4. Nicolejgeorges.com is still in limbo. Oh brother.
5. I am co-curating an art show with Reading Frenzy's faithful proprietress Chloe Eudaly for August called Specular Preserves. We put together a showcase of some of our favorite women comic artists, most of whom started out (and many who still are) self-publishing their work. We chose this focus as a nod to the historic tradition of self-portraiture in women's art and because it provides a strong unifying theme to an otherwise diverse array of artists. Flier to follow.
* Alicia Justus
* Ariel Schrag
* Catherine Peach
* Cristy Road
* Fawn Gehweiler
* Fiona Smyth
* Gabrielle Bell
* Jen Sbragia
* Jessica Abel
* Julia Wertz
* Kalah Allen
* Kelly Froh
* Lilli Carre
* Liz Prince
* Nicole Georges
* Xtina Lamb

6. If such a thing is possible, my dog Wishbone's hair is getting LONGER! I must be feeding her too much nutrition. I'm going to switch her to vegan food for a couple of weeks and see if the hair recedes.

7. The Zine Symposium is around the corner and if i have my way (and don't have a nervous breakdown before-hand), there will be a new, limited edition Invincible Summer Issue 14 (the sister spit issue) , Issue 15 split with Clutch, and maybe, just maybe, a half issue 16/ 15.5! I'll try my best. Cross your fingers for me.

A List for This Week

1. wishbone is "not very present".

Somebody in the world used my blog to narc on one of my friends! Boooooo.

2. dinner with eileen myles (who once ran for president of the united states) .
at the end of which she told us a story about somebody walking out of the house whilst boiling dildoes (for sanitary reasons you can do this from time to time) and having them go up in flames. A photograph of charred black penises at the bottom of a kettle was shown to friends while the charr-er explained that the fire department was called and she was evicted from her apartment for the blackened dildo-ery.

3. nicole j. georges dot com is down.
alas. yahoo has repossessed my website. i have to buy my own name back. what in the world! Apparently when you sign up for a website and don't expect for it to expire for at least three years, you should write down whatever bogus yahoo address you made up for the specific transaction, so that three years later you aren't sitting on the phone for 45 minute stints on hold (afterwhich you drop your phone on the ground and get disconnected) and then failing to prove your identity and that truly you deserve to have this domain name back once connected with a Yahoo representative. (You feel you deserve it because it is Your Actual Name).
and so.
in the meantime.
the weak version of my website:
http://www.myspace.com/nicolejgeorgesillustrations

4. graphic? how Novel!
i am about to embark on a quest called Writing A Graphic Novel About The Twisted Tale Of The Doctor Laura Show. Maybe i will print the original story here for your perusal. Wish me luck!

5. heirloom tomatoes are back.

6. basil chili sauce is the number one thing you should spread all over your vegetarian shish kabobs this year before putting them to fire. this tip from Morgan at Dovetail Bakery, who blows my mind on a regular basis.

7. next week is the Rock n Roll Camp for Girls, at which i teach a zine workshop. did you know that i illustrated a book about the rock n roll camp for girls which JUST came out from Chronicle Books? Truly! You will note that i even have a representative from my land of drawings on the cover of the book, where she is shown playing the drums.

Tight Game, part I

from stumptown comics festival in 2007, in which i imagine that in order to eat the last cupcake, marc would touch it with his weiner. i found this so hilarious that i started laughing and coffee came out of my nose and ran down my face, right in time for a cute girl to walk up to our table.

2002-02-17

this morning my mom called and woke me up to give me her review of Lord of the Rings.

"remember that part where Gandalf was driving away the devil with the power of christ?"

"no mom, that was a wizards septor i think..."

"no, then the light of christ overtook him... oh nickie, it was all straight out of the book of revelations!"

on and on and on.

An Ode to Queer Animals Among Us.

so...
last week my mother offered me $100 if i would look at a youtube video she'd sent me via email.
At first i told her i'd thrown it away, thinking it was right-wing-propagandha. she assured me it was not that, and was, in fact, "Hilarious, Nickie!"
so,
wanting a hundred dollars,
i retrieved said video from my trash folder and watched it.
and
was
horrified!

The email started
"A hard look at where we are headed today! What is this world coming to?"

And attached was the video (see below). It was a humorous country song in the vein of "i'm my own grandpa" or jeff foxworthy, and basically, the theme was

Homosexuality is Unnatural. Just Look At The Animal Kingdom.

the main character begins by sitting on the couch watchin' t.v. and seeing something about a wedding.
but something was wrong! (wait for it...)
the wedding photos showed only ......two GROOMS!
this caused him to look to the barn for answers.

the video enforced that if chickens were gay there'd be no eggs (not true) , on and on.

"two mares can't make a stallion, two bulls can't make a cow,
it takes a male and female to make the species go on,
there'll be no reproduction if the plumbin' is all wrong."

oh brother!

Hi Mom, D, & L,

That video is really offensive.

there are gay animals:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15750604/

attached is a photo of two gay animals, one of which is your DAUGHTER!

after receiving only chuckling responses from all parties ("there must be something in the water"), I started investigating gay animals further and found out there is an amazing list from which to choose!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animals_displaying_homosexual_behavior
take a look!

And so, in response to all of this, the 2009 Invincible Summer calendar will be dedicated to the queer animal kingdom. all clean, like usual, sometimes romantic.

I can't wait!

Sincerely,
n.g.
